He is Muhammad Shuqair Ad-Dimashqi Al-Maidani Ash-Shami Ash-Shafi`ii
Born in the year 1365 AH in the city of Damascus in the district of Al-Maidan, he studied the Revealed Law and its’ disciplines with some of the greatest scholars of Damascus.
Imam Shuqair studied the Qur’an and the ten recitations with the great authority, Imam Muhammad Kurayyim Rajih and kept the company of Imam Husaid Khattab. In addition to these great scholars, he also studied with Imams Hasan Habanakah al-Maidani and Mulla Ramadan al-Bouti (father of the current marja`, Imam Muhammad Sa`id Ramadan Al-Bouti).
Other teachers such as Imams Khair Yasin, Hussain Khattab, Nu`aim Shuqair, Muhammad Sa`id Ramadan Al-Bouti, Mahmud al-Habbal, Sadiq Habanakah, `Abdul Qadir Barakah and Mustafa Al-Bugha gave Imam Shuqair detailed knowledge of fiqh, Principles of Fiqh, Hadith, Tafsir and other areas.
At thirty five years of age, he was already leading prayers, teaching fiqh and teaching in place of scholars with their authority.
